Hello, I’m Darcy Vescio, an Australian footballer and creative. I have played for Carlton in the AFLW since 2017 and have worked as a graphic designer over the past 10 years. In the past 2 years, I have delved into the world of art, launching my first solo show in 2024 titled That Sack Of Air.

I love when sport and art collide and would love to explore this through the vehicle of a children’s book.

A book for young readers and for parents to read to their kids.

As an AFLW player and footy lover, I grew up learning the ways of the mysterious ball. Today, I am still fascinated by the shape, the patterns of movement and believe it is one of the most prominent features of making our game beautifully unique.

This kids book is a fun and colourful exploration of the shape of the ball and what it feels like to play - especially if you’re new! It gives kids and adults the opportunity to use their imaginations and capture the absurdity of a footy.

The ball in footy is a funny shape
It’s not round like a circle, it’s more like a grape

But even though it’s this peculiar way,
It can still seem so different every single day

Some days the ball is like a brick, 
Heavy and hard, it hurts my foot to kick!
